Leader of the Pack

Be predictable and smooth.

Have a basic pre-ride briefing outlining rest stops, lunch stop and such.

Designate lead and sweep.

Don’t pull out from any stop until everyone can do so safely.  Avoid “speed racer’  acceleration and unnecessary passing movements.

Accelerate and decelerate slowly and gradually to avoid yo-yo and accordion effects.  This includes initial movements and speed limit signs. 

Allow the group to “bunch up” at controlled intersections when possible before proceeding. 

Don’t pull over until it can be done predictably and with enough room for all.

Go the speed limit or, at most, 5 above depending on road and traffic conditions unless group is previously advised.

Don’t leave anyone behind due to speed or ability.  No reason for anyone to have to catch up.

If all riders don’t make it through a controlled intersection, the group will slow down in the right hand lane or pull over if roadway does not allow.

The Leader’s directions override everyone else unless there is danger involved.

Be predictable and smooth.

 You could be leading at any time depending on traffic, split groups, etc.

A few notes on sweeping. You could become the sweeper at any time.  Unexpected turns, the bike at the back waits, etc.

May 2018 OGRES Motorcycle Club Meeting Report

Gundy, G (MotoCross) Man, Krome, Grim, Rip City and Bomber

All members in attendance met at the Clubhouse at the appointed time.  Present: Bomber, Rip City, Grim, Krome, G (MotoCross) Man and Gundy.  Absent:  Duke and Smooth.

Some time had to be taken to admire Gundy's new ride, cool red and chrome additions to Krome's ride and some changes to Grim's ride.  While we were gawking at the new stuff, the Smithsonian called G-Man and said they wanted the purple....er.....cobalt blue exhibit returned to the museum.

Rip City suggested we go to a premium burger joint over in Caldwell and also that he was going to lead the Club.  We all thought it was a great idea and took off....took off....okay, G-Man is finally ready to launch...took off westbound on Fairview.  We made it two lights before we almost had...you guessed it...a gang wreck.  Unbeknownst to us, Rip City had put a new device on his Indian that made every traffic signal turn immediately yellow as we approached them.  Cool, huh?

At the second traffic signal, Krome thought that Rip City and Bomber were going to roll through the yellow light.  Well, he was half right.  Bomber went through the yellow light, as predicted, but Rip City stopped.  What happened next was some fantastic motorcycle handling by Krome as he locked up his rear brake, slid sideways ominously heading for Indian-land, released the brake which straightened up his bike and went harmlessly to the left of the Rip City Red Indian.  An impressive black cloud of rubber smoke lingered in the air smelling like death.  (Good line, eh?)

You never know when a gang wreck might rear it's ugly head.

The rest of the ride was uneventful as Rip City did an excellent job of leading the Club to the target restaurant.  Yes, he really did a great job.

Grim thinks it was the M & M Drive-in or something similar.  Or Grim is just hungry for a sweet treat.  We all ordered great big burgers except for the one member who likes to be different.  I won't name names but he ordered a chicken burger.  And tots.  And a cotton candy...er...chocolate shake.

We all were "excited" to sit at the stainless steel table, shown above, until we sat down.  Grim's seat was very comfortable but G-Man was afraid his behind was going to swallow his stool so we moved over and took over the tables by the front window.  The food was great and the conversation was mostly geared to talking trash about Duke and Smooth and their ancestry.  We also did talk about motorcycles, women in spandex and how to choose a bicycle saddle.  

We said our goodbyes to Gundy and Rip City and headed back to Boise.  We all wanted to take the back road using Lincoln and Joplin and G-Man said he knew the best way.  Yeah, Grim allowed G-Man to lead again.  Yeah, I know.

Everything was smooth as we looped around and landed at the beginning of Marble Front Road.  We flew down Marble Front Road...and then we passed the left turn onto Mason...then we passed the left had turn onto Wells...and Grim figured G-Man knew another way to avoid the loose gravel ahead.  Grim was wrong.  As we topped the hill, we hit the gravel and all Grim could think about was his new fender and engine guard.  We managed to keep our bikes upright and made it to Middleton Road.  

This is where G-Man went right past Lincoln but was nice enough to point at the turn we should have taken as Bomber, G-Man and Krome went past it.  Grim made the turn, hyper aware, as he had already been "graveled".  We cruised the rest of the way in peaceful bliss with Grim back in the lead.

Krome peeled off for home whilst the remaining trio stopped by Bomber's new digs to check out the site for the OGRES barbecue in September.  Wow, are we in for a treat.  Bomber's new shop may also be in the running as the new OGRES Clubhouse.

Synopsis:  Rip City did a great job leading the Club and G (MotoCross) Man...well...!?!?

Anyway...it was a great meeting and gang wrecks were avoided.  Grim's mouth hurts from grinning as he writes this.

OGRES MC Mandatory Meeting This Thursday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m.

The next mandatory OGRES Motorcycle Club meeting will be this coming Thursday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m.  It will be at the Clubhouse on Fairview.

We will have a short meeting with a review of an important topic and then ride to a local eatery for dinner.

OGRES Night Out With The Spouses

Everyone who attended remarked what a nice evening it was.  I won't go into detail who was in attendance as it is clear by the photos except for the photographer, G-Man.  Thanks for the photos.

Many thanks for Duke and his generosity.  A member remarked that he felt bad about Duke picking up the check.  I reminded him that I was always diligent in properly thanking Duke for his generosity by accompanying Duke to a sporting goods store or motorcycle dealership and helping him spend a lot of money on himself.  Right?

OGRES Night with Spouses is Tonight !!!

The OGRES Night Out with Spouses is tonight!  We will meet at the Clubhouse at 6:30 and walk over together to the restaurant where reservations have been made.  See you there!

OGRES Motorcycle Club March 2018 Meeting Report

Gundy's New Ride

The meeting convened at the appointed date, time and place.  All members were present and accounted for !

Duke furnished the great Taco Bell delight and there was very little left after the feeding frenzy.  Oh, that was just me, I guess.

We reviewed the upcoming events including the Summer Reverse Run and the change of dates for the Fall Run.

The membership set a date for a Night Out with the Spouses.  We will meet at the Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. on March 30th.  We will go next door to the restaurant for a get together.  G-MAN IS MAKING THE RESERVATIONS....FOR REAL.

Door prizes were drawn with almost everyone winning as there were multiple prizes.  

It was a great meeting with only Rip City almost falling asleep.  See all y'all on the 30th.

Mandatory OGRES MC Meeting Thursday March 1st at 6:30 PM

There will be a mandatory OGRES Motorcycle Club meeting this coming Thursday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Clubhouse on Fairview.  

Food and drink will be provided and door prizes will be aplenty.  Bring your enthusiasm and appetite.

Topics of discussion are too many to list here.

January 2018 OGRES MC Meeting Report

What a great meeting!  I believe the attending members achieved the mission statement of the OMC by have the maximum fun possible!

Present: Bomber, Grim, G-Man. Krome, Gundy and Duke.  Absent: Smooth and Rip City.

Duke brought his piping hot Doritos Tacos, regular tacos,burritos and cinnamon delights for our enjoyment.  And enjoy we did along with beverages furnished by G-Man.  Delicious!

Duke also shared a super bitchin' find that he had "stolen" from a local store.  The item was a beautiful blue finish with special limited engraving.  Wow!

Grim passed out the new updated OMC Constitution and By-Laws and the members reviewed the contents and Grim discussed the updates that occurred due to recent voting changes by the members.

Dues were collected by Grim and he gave an accounting of where all the monies are spent.

We then discussed the upcoming OMC Events and Runs.  It was voted that March will not be a night out with the spouses due the the scarcity of meetings since we voted to only have meetings every other month.  Instead, we will come up with another activity, besides the September barbecue, to share with the spouses.

Members were invited to get their reservations in with the Challis Hot Springs for the Spring Run.  Grim has made his reservations but did NOT reserve the remainder of the rooms.  Each member is responsible for making their own reservations.

It was also discussed that the Summer Run would be traveled in reverse from previous years and reservations are the responsibility of each member.

Finally, discussion occurred reference the Fall Run.  Due to complications with other events in Joseph, the ride will occur on a Thursday and Friday the final week of August.  Reservations should be made, by each member, in a timely manner.  At the time of this meeting, all rooms were available except for the room already reserved by Grim.

We then had our uproariously fun "white elephant" exchange.  Some of the "white elephant" gifts included a toy Harley-Davidson car, a $25 Lowes gift certificate, a Chevron "Patty Police" car, a book, cargo net, patches, stuff I can't remember and a $500 High Desert Harley-Indian gift certificate.  Yes, a $500 dollar gift certificate was given by and won by unnamed members.  Holy cow.  Grim said a superb "white elephant" gift and didn't state a dollar limit so the gift exchange was a little more interesting than usual.

G-Man, Krome, Gundy, Duke (just his leg), Bomber and 

Next a drawing was held for the door prize and Krome came out on top.  He won a complete set of Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary patches and pins that were released in 2003.  Grim had to take the Indian Anniversary patches home since the lone Indian owning member was not present to win.

G-Man had printed out some interesting looking maps but must have forgotten to share.  Grim hopes he brings them to the next meeting.

No doubt there was much more fun and witty repartee that occurred at the meeting as my ribs were sore from laughing so much.  Those who attended were the lucky recipients of all the fun including the trash talk that was directed at missing members.  Both were not present through no fault of their own.....but that really doesn't matter, does it?!

2018 New Years Day Ride/Breakfast Report

Intrepid OMC members met at the Egg Factory for the traditional OMC New Years Day Ride and/or Breakfast.

Present: Rip City, Bomber, G-Man, Smooth and Duke.  Absent: Grim, Krome and Gundy.  (I think Gundy's absence is Grim's fault as the wrong e-mail was inputted.).  (Gundy....let me know if you get this.)

Smooth exclaimed it was a great time and we needed to continue this event.  Other attendees agreed.

Rip City sent Grim a text, with the above picture, asking him where the heck he was.  Unfortunately, Grim had "spaced" the event even after really looking forward to it.  Grim was still sleeping and missed the text.  Dang.  Double demerits.

Next year for sure.

OMC Challis Spring Run 2018

• Friday   June 1    271 Miles

The run will begin promptly at the Chevron at Gowen Rd. and I-84 at 9 a.m.  Safety briefing at 8:45 p.m.

Boise - Mountain Home - Carey - Arco.

Lunch will be at Pickles in Arco.

Arco - Mackay - Challis.

Overnight lodging will be at Challis Hot Springs for the first 8 or 9 guests who make reservations. Call the Challis Hot Springs at (208) 879-4442. Get your own reservations.  The remaining riders will make arrangements to stay in town.

Bring money to pay for the dinner that will be prepared and served at Challis Hot Springs.

• Saturday   June 2     220 Miles

  

Breakfast will be at Challis Hot Springs. All but those 8 or 9 lucky folks who made reservations will have to pay for breakfast at the Hot Springs or eat in town.

We will depart at a time set by the Ride Captain.

Time is needed for soaking in the pool.

Challis - Stanley – Lowman.

Lunch will be in Lowman.

Garden Valley - Banks - Horseshoe Bend - Boise.

The ride will end at the Stinker Station at State St. (Highway 44) and Old Horseshoe Bend Road.

This run is open only to OMC members and who they

OMC Salmon/Orofino Summer Run 2018

• Thursday   July 19   251 Miles 

 The run will begin at the Stinker Station, at Highway 44 and Old Horseshoe Bend Road, at 9 a.m. sharp.  Safety Briefing at 8:45 a.m.

Boise - Horseshoe Bend – Banks – Crouch – Lowman – Stanley – Challis – Salmon

Overnight lodging will be in Salmon at The Stagecoach Inn, 201 Riverfront Drive, (208) 756-2919.  Each rider is responsible for making their own reservation.

• Friday   July 20        292 Miles

The run will continue with departure at 8 a.m. sharp.

Salmon – Sula – Darby – Hamilton – Victor – Florence – Lolo – Lochsa Lodge – Kooskia – Kamiah - Orofino

Overnight lodging will be in Orofino at Best Western Rivers Edge, 615 Main Street, (208) 476-9999.  Each rider is responsible for making their own reservation.

• Saturday   July 21       244 Miles

The run will continue with departure at 9 a.m. sharp.

Orofino – Grangeville – New Meadows – McCall – Cascade – Banks – Horseshoe Bend - Boise

The ride will end at the Stinker Station at State St. (Highway 44) and Old Horseshoe Bend Road.

This run is open to OMC members and who they invite.  Guests must be approved by the President.

OMC Joseph Fall Run 2018

• Friday   August 24        235 Miles

The ride will begin with breakfast at the Garage Café in Notus, Idaho at 8 a.m.

Notus - Parma - Nyssa - Baker City - Haines - Elgin.

Lunch will be at the Cowboy and Angel’s Place in Elgin.

Elgin - Wallowa - Enterprise - Joseph.

Dinner will be at the Outlaw Cafe or The Stubborn Mule in Joseph.

Overnight lodging will be at the Indian Lodge Motel (541-432-2651) in Joseph, Oregon. Each rider must make their own reservations.

• Saturday   August 25      220 Miles

Breakfast will be at the Cheyenne Cafe.

Joseph - Pine Creek - Hells Canyon - Cambridge - Weiser - Payette - Sand Hollow - Middleton.

The ride will end at the Shell Station at Highway 44 and Old Highway 30, just west of Middleton.

This ride is open only to OMC members and who they invite.  Guests must be approved by the

Rip City's Report of the OMC November 2017 Mandatory Meeting

November 2 2107 was the date of the first OGRES field trip.  The location was Caldwell, Idaho at the Terry Maybon residence.  This was RIP's big invitation to Caldwell's night life.

Of course, RIP was his usual 30 minutes early to deliver his payment of Root Beer to Terry.  Gundy showed up in usual biker style riding his motorcycle...right on time.  Duke came soon after driving his covered wagon.  Terry showed up ready to show off his 9 cool cars.

I said, nervously, "Let's wait for the Thuesons".  That was my big mistake.  I called them twice and was being told "We're just about there",  Finally, after what seemed like half time at a football game, they showed up.  All was forgiven when Bomber showed up in a vintage old Ford pickup truck.

MIA was our Pres., Smooth and Krome.  Too bad, they missed some cool, cool rides.

Terry had documentation of taking rusty metal, shaped like door handles, of some forgotten muscle car and turning it into a "meant of showroom" quality piece of automobile jewelry.  Several cars have taken First Place at regional car shows like a 67 Camaro.   And also a Cobra kit car that was as close to the real thing that any of us had ever seen.  Several times he started up cars and grins were abundant.  The cars we saw represented our 25 years of Terry missing TV in order to be out in his man's cave creating works of art.

Then it was time to depart Terry's cool pad to go eat.  Of course, RIP let the way...and got lost in Caldwell.  Finally, while wondering where to go, we looked right across the street to the Sunrise Cafe.  We, of course, rolled in wearing our cuts and scaring people as we have been trained to do.  As usual, Rip met a Mexican friend he hadn't seen for 20 years.

The food was excellent, the service was excellent and Duke was excellent...paying for our meal.  Thanks, Duke !

RIP would like to invite Terry to our Club meeting in January 2018 to show him the Clubhouse and all the cool cars in the Clubhouse.  RIP awaits response from the Pres....

OGRES MC November 2017 Meeting This Thursday at 5:45 PM

1948 Cadillac

We will meet at the Clubhouse at 5:45 p.m. for those wanting to drive en masse to Terry Maybon's place in Caldwell.  It should be fun to check out his hot rods and classic cars.

I will send his address out in a private e-mail for those who are going directly there.  We will arrive/meet at Terry Maybon's at 6:30 p.m.

The plan is to grab a bite to eat after smelling the rust and checking out the rides.
