OMC November 2015 Meeting Report
The OMC November meeting was held as planned at the Clubhouse on Fairview. Present: Duke, G-Man, Big Easy, Rip City, Smooth, Bomber and Grim. Not present: Zeus and Krome.
Duke had brought Taco Bell and eating the boxes of tacos and burritos was high priority on the agenda. I go loco for the Doritos tacos. A few new shooting toys were displayed and Rip City was checked for status on being cocked and locked.
Much trash talk was flying about Krome as he was not present and it is very important to talk trash about those who don't attend the mandatory meetings and instead are in the home state of Slick Willy and Hillary Clinton. We realized that Krome would have had perfect attendance this year except he did attend one event.....the January meeting. A special t-shirt is planned for presentation to Krome.
The updates to the by-laws were covered along with discussion about sections that were not changed. It was unclear if this viewing was in fact the first by some of the members. The most important changes were that members are now to vote on most of the changes in the club membership and such. Formal copies will be brought to the January meetings. An appendix was added clearly outlining guidelines for prospects and guests.
The suggestion was made that we start to meet on a monthly rather than a bi-monthly basis. Odd months would stay the same as in the past but the added meetings in the even months would be purely social with the OMC members meeting for dinner at local restaurants and grills. This topic will be reopened after the holidays at the January meeting and formalized if all OMC members are on board. More discussion is needed on this topic.
Information about an Enhanced Plus CCW class was passed on the the group. A NRA instructor (retired BPD) would put on the 10 hour class for $250 per person. It would include classroom, range, and physical self defense including how to protect the home. Grim is to send out a couple of choices for dates for this training. Enthusiasm seemed low so I can't forecast if this will happen.
Door prizes were drawn for and some of the members left with cool booty. Funny how Bomber drew his number first.
Grim did not wear the most expensive hat to the meeting but it was the best looking. Keep the rubber side down and see you next meeting.

Mandatory OMC Meeting This Thursday November 5 at 7 p.m. at the Fairview Clubhouse
We will be discussing the changes to the by-laws and reviewing the rides for next year, among many other topics.........like a 10 hour firearms class available for members.
There will be door prizes and food/drink.
I don't want to burn printer/paper supplies so let me know if you are not going to make it so I don't print a bunch of copies of the by-laws for empty chairs.

OMC 2015 September Meeting Report
The OMC September meeting was held at Duke's crib. Members present (along with their wives): Smooth, Duke, Grim, G-Man, Big Easy, Rip "Hollywood" City and Bomber. Not present: Krome and Zeus.
The weather was a little chilly but rather nice in a way. Scarecrow's wife wore his special jacket and was stunning in the custom apparel. Bomber's wife wore Vandal colored shoes which warmed and raised some jealousy in Grim's heart. Bomber and Rip "Hollywood" City had commiserated before the meeting so their shoes would match and Big Easy arrived fashionably late.
The food was wonderful and I want to know more about the origin of the ribs. Grim had two plates of food and wanted more but reason prevailed.
Talk of rust, cars, cowboy hats, Silver City and Air Jordans filled part of the conversation when attendees came up for air from eating the fine food.
Just for the record, wive's names are not used in the Blog for privacy reasons and out of respect. Much props to the lovely OGRES wives for their support and camaraderie. Life would not be the same without them.
'Nuff said.

2015 OMC Fall Joseph Run Report
The fifth annual OMC Fall Run began with a hearty breakfast at the Garage Cafe in Notus. Present: G-Man, Smooth, Grim, Bomber, Rip City and his guest. Duke joined the rolling party later in the trip. Not present: Big Easy, Krome and Zeus.

We rolled out after breakfast and headed towards Joseph through Parma, Nyssa and Ontario. The temperature was perfect and the road smooth. We continued through the backroads and passed through the small town where "Kid Rock" was "born".
As we rolled into Baker City, it was very nostalgic pulling up to the Chevron pumps in the middle of town across from the "Harley Dealer" where we had bought parts a few years ago. I never get quite used to the Oregon practice of gas pump attendants.
After Scarecrow went to the Post Office, not as much fun as Pony Express, we headed up through Haines, North Powder, Union City, Cove and landed in Elgin for lunch at the White Horse Cafe. The manager remembered us from last year and the same table of old ladies, who attended the same high school, were seated at the same table they were last year. Deja vu all over again. A drunk guy was at the lunch bar saying he was also in the cafe last year when we were. I don't know if he was hallucinating or if he was correct.

After a lovely repast, the motley crew continued on through small towns and little traffic until we gassed in Enterprise. We eventually rolled into Joseph through the thickening smoke from local or distant fires. After parking and unpacking, we went into tin sign hunting mode and also found time to procure drinks and expensive chocolate along with a nice walk up and down Main Street. Rip City again struck out unable to procure another "specialty" shirt at the local fishing shop. The obligatory visit to the hardware store was made so we could take in all the wonderful sights and smells found therein.

G-Man, Smooth and Bomber then headed back to Enterprise to check out some rust that Bomber had smelled when we had traveled through there earlier. I half-expected him to return with his Harley on the flat bed of a 1959 truck but he had left it behind. G-Man had scored a great automotive sign in an antique store where Smooth had failed to get the owner lady to come down a buck fifty on a six dollar and fifty cent item.
We then went to the Stubborn mule and had the usual Friday night 90 minute wait for our food. The upside was the food was very good and the company and jokes of high caliber. And Rip City was cocked and locked for the first time in a while.
We all returned to the Indian Lodge Motel where slumber awaited us. There was a rumor of a card game where a new variation of cards was purported to have been played. I tend to believe no sane person would play "seven card draw" but it might have happened. All I know my wallet was light by five dollars the next morning and Rip City was missing $1.60. Smooth was strangely happy however as he had found some extra gas money.
The next morning found us at the Cheyenne Cafe where the portions were still as huge and Rip City again was disappointed at the undercooked condition of his hash browns. Mine, however, were crispy and tasty. The picture of the Thueson brothers riding together on Bomber's bike down Main Street will haunt my memory for a while, however. You can guess who was riding bitc.....um.....on the back.
We eventually hit the road and headed towards Hell's Canyon. Just after turning on the old road, we were "greeted" by some deer who thankfully ignored Rip City as he didn't even see them. We continued on until we reached the lookout where we snacked and told lies and stories.

We departed and headed down the mountain until the road t-boned into the highway. We turned to head to Scotty's when we happened upon Duke coming the other direction. It was great to see him and he turned and jumped in with the group and we stopped at Scotty's in quick fashion. We were ready to draw straws to see who would venture into the store to approach the scary lady owner but it turns out she sold the place to her son. He was present and took our money. Coincidentally, his name was Scotty.
Duke regaled us with his recently completed trip on Route 66 and I decided maybe that wasn't my dream ride anymore. Four Corners.....here I come.
We continued on around the reservoir and into Cambridge where we stopped at the Ranch House (formerly Mrs. G's) for lunch. Curiously, they only had one kind of pie. We had a nice lunch while Duke grilled our guest about his religious, political and second amendment affiliations. No pie but plenty of ice cream was had by some of the members. Having incurred serious gastro-intestinal discomfort at Scotty's (two Starbuck's cold coffee drinks.....I'll never do that again...almost called for an ambulance) I passed on taking on any more sugar and lactose.
We climbed back on our rain spattered bikes and continue down through MidVale, Weiser and Payette. We were rained on intermittently and with varying intensity for the rest of the ride. The rain was strangely refreshing for me but I blame Rip City for jinxing us with the rain as he had donned his rain jacket in Cambridge. On Sand Hollow Road, my life passed before my eyes as a silver Jeep made wide ranging turn in front of the pack causing me to wonder if a collision was imminent but somehow the driver found her lane.
We said our goodbyes at the Sinclair Station at Highway 44 and 30. It was a great ride, one of our best, along with being quite cathartic for the most part. I am glad to be a member of the OGRES and I am sure there are many more thrills, chills and NO spills in the future.
I hoped you enjoyed this new style of run report with more photos and less prose. I did have one more photo of Rip City's new gun carrying style but it is omitted by special request. Copies are available but very expensive for purchase.

OMC 2015 Summer Run Report
We headed over through Fruitland (short stop to say high to G-Man's son), Payette and Weiser. As we neared MidVale and Cambridge, the storm clouds began to gather and we began to get rained on intermittently. We pushed through Cambridge and Council trying to get past the storm and eat where there was dry weather.
We stopped in New Meadows where we had a very nice meal, except for a grouchy Grim, at the Granite Cafe. Why we haven't eaten there before, instead of the A & W, defies all logic and reason. We then grabbed some fuel and put on some rain gear due to the rain we had already experienced and the ominous clouds to the north that marked our path.
| Rip City and Big Easy |
The weather was hot with more intermittent rain until we hit White Bird Hill. The further up the hill, the more the heavens dumped rain and some sleet on us. We pushed through and made it to Grangeville, where we stopped under the canopy at the Conoco at the edge of town. There we caught our breath and put on the remainder of what rain gear we possessed.
From there to Orofino, we experienced either scorching heat or pouring rain on an alternating basis. It was great to get to Orofino to the wonderful Best Western and get in the pool and Jacuzzi. Ah, what a relief that was. Duke arrived about an hour or so after we arrived. After hearing about his journey to Orofino, it was clear he had a much worse time than we did and White Bird Hill had not gotten any better for him.
We ate at the marvelous restaurant next door where Duke enjoyed making us all uncomfortable with his compliments directed at our Kenyan waitress. It was worth every minute as Duke picked up the tab and I enjoyed Huckleberry ice cream pie-like on a chocolate crust. Yummy. We went back to the hotel and enjoyed a lively conversation on the beautiful deck next the the Clearwater River and a nice water feature a few feet away. When it appear Rip City was nodding asleep, as we sat, it was clear it was time to go hit the rack.
The next morning we departed and headed through Kamiah and began our journey over Lolo Pass. We stopped somewhere for an early morning ice cream and Scarecrow was surprised it wasn't as shady and nice as when he normally stopped there in the afternoon. Duh. It was a great ride and we stopped at a Grove of trees whose name I forget. Big Easy was stung by a wasp just as we pulled in and we took some nostalgic photos in the grove. I expected Heavenly Personages to appear but they did not. Probably a good thing.
We rode on and lost Big Easy and Scarecrow, now and then, around the Idaho Border and Stites respectively. No doubt we have some quirky personalities on the OMC and I am the only one that is normal. We made it safely down the mountain to Lolo and stopped in Florence at a decommissioned gas station turned restaurant. All the convenience store shelves were emptied but still there forcing all the tables together to make room for the bar. We sat en masse with the local colorful citizenry who luckily had left their banjos at home. Rip City got a glass of ice and then made some weird concoction of a drink and I was relieved when it did not change him into a creature that craved human blood or the like.
| Big Easy, Duke, Grim and Rip City in Darby, Montana (G-Man taking the picture) |
We rode on and stopped in the great little town of Darby, Montana. My only regret is that we didn't get there earlier. We went in an antique shop only to find it was connected to seven shops all in the same building. Handmade knives were next to beautifully crafted jewelry. Sterling silver reproduction badges and buffalo nice leather adornments were plentiful. Reproduction strong boxes, locks and other great stuff were everywhere. And there was a candy shop where I found my favorite milk chocolate haystacks. I didn't get to see the entire group of shops as the boss lady came out of the back and ran us out the door. We crossed the street to grab drinks at the convenience store but were waylaid at the custom hat store. Rip City tried on several hats including the hat that the owner had made for Val Kilmer in his role as Doc Holiday on Tombstone. Then Rip City tried on a hat that looked so right on him it was astounding. It made him look like the Virginian and was a perfect match for his features. Only $979 and he passed it up ?!?! It was one of the cheaper hats in the store.
We pressed onto Salmon and eventually arrived at the Stagecoach in Salmon. If it was the best hotel in town, I would have hated to see the worst. But it was a bed and shower and there were probably a total of 26 Harleys, 1 Indian and one Can-Am in the parking lot. We went over to the Shady Nook and found a round table in a square corner. We had a very nice meal and entertained two table loads of folks right next to us as we were sitting in close proximity. We then headed to the hotel and talked with fellow bikers. Sorry, Rip City, for stealing your thunder as I waxed poetic about the details coolness of Cherokee instead of allowing you to do so.
| Rip City in Front of the Bridge Street Grill in Lower Stanley |
We headed out bright and early after waiting for Duke to have breakfast and Big Easy to finally air up his tires. We headed down to Challis and stopped for a quick break. Then it was smooth sailing to Stanley as their was either no traffic or troublesome traffic turned off the main road as if by magic. We stopped for lunch at the Bridge Street Grill in Lower Stanley. It was a very nice change and I met some Iron Warriors I had slaved with prior to my leaving the Force. We then headed down towards Lowman.
We followed a bunch of riders down almost to Lowman. The group was comprised of about 4 Gold Wing trikes, one Harley trike and some two wheeled Gold Wings. They were going our pace and for a while it looked like we has us A Convoy. They turned off at the Sourdough Lodge and we continued on towards Lowman and then turned to Garden Valley. Then, of course, we met the stereotypical Subaru cage driver from Elmore County. The driver would purposely drive 35 mph where we couldn't pass and then speed to 65 mph where we could pass. We suffered with this miscreant until we stopped to get gas in Garden Valley. I had ice cream.
We then rode on through Banks, Horseshoe Bend and ended our ride at the Chevron at Beacon Light. It was a great ride and I hated for it to be over. Big Easy suggested going to the Coast for chowder and I would have gone for sure.
This story may not be true....but what good is truth if it's boring. See all y'all at at the OMC Fall Run.

Due to chip and seal highway construction on Highway 55, we will meet at the gas station at Highway 44 and I-84 at 8:30 a.m. for safety briefing. We will leave shortly thereafter. OMC members present: Rip City, G-Man, Big Easy, Bomber, Grim and Smooth. Absent: Krome, Zeus and Duke.
Attending members met at the Clubhouse at the appointed time. We rode over to Rudys and enjoyed a great meal served by the cutest waitress in the house. We made a point to say mean things about all the missing members and came up with a new nick-name for Krome. It will be unveiled at a later date.
Just for the record, Smooth came clear down off of the top of Tamarack Mountain just to make the meeting. 'Nuff said.

OMC 2015 Iron Butt Ride June 19th and 20th (Guest Post by G-Man)
The OGRES Annual Iron Butt did take place over the last weekend. It was scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM
last Friday the 19th, but both final hardcore riding participants (G-Man and Big Easy) had some last minute
business that got in the way, and so the scheduled leave time changed from 8:00 to 11:00, then to 1:30
and finally “kickstands up” at 3:10, from the Eagle Chevron at State Street. Riders rode non-stop to LaGrande where G-Man ran out of gas and just coasted into the Shell station at the first off-ramp down the hill. Big Easy still thinks G-Mans tank is the same as his tank….NOT.
Then on to Arlington for gas up again, speeding most of the way. At the first bridge over the Columbia, riders rode up to Goldendale, Washington, with spectacular rural scenery, then thru beautiful winding farm country, with Mt. St. Helens in the background, before starting a long wind down thru some spectacular canyon country and the “hippie style” community of Klickitat, Washington. (Steve Nielson, the Great Ride Planner, was right, this is a ride worth taking) We dropped out near White Salmon as the light faded and we ate real good Chinese food at a gas station run or owned by recent emigrants from China, before camping on the ground in a very nice clean KOA style camp ground across the river from Hood River.
Up at 5:30, good hot shower, across the Toll Bridge ( .75 per rider ) and a 1 course breakfast at McD’s. Then, on south thru the most spectacular early morning scenery of orchards, farms, rolling hills, beautiful forests, and the majesty of Mt. Hood in the background. Then on to Barlow Pass with temps of near 40 degrees. Then we took a little known side road that was very windy for 30 miles or so, ending on a highway at Detroit, Oregon. I got a pastry and Big Easy used the facilities, and we took off for Belknap hot springs. About 12 miles down the road was a sign posted that said “62 miles till next gas”. At that point, Big Easy was in the lead, did not see the sign, and was headed south. I waited 5 minutes, hoping he would know that I was not behind him, but then decided to return to gas up knowing I would not make it without doing so. I retraced about 12 miles back, gassed up, and headed back down the road. I had given my cell phone to Big Easy earlier in the day so he could charge it on his bike and knew if we lost contact, we would be lost for the day. Luckily, he finally look in his rear view mirror at some point, turned around and rode back to find me. Even though I had filled my tank, he was sure he could ride on without gas. Gutsy Big Easy. So, on south we rode, and made it to some beautiful falls at a way point along the way, and then finally Belknap Hot Springs. We found the gardens and location beautiful and worthy of an Ogres Ride in the future.
Next it was over the McKenzie pass and a stop at the lava fields and the awesome “fort” type rest stop at the top. I shared my memory of the ride most of the OGRES took years ago when I first rode into Oregon with the gang that eventually became the OGRES. Fun times.
Finally, it was getting late in the day, on thru Sisters, Redmond, Prineville, and a stop in John Day for something cold to drink, and we did learn that the favorite burger in town is STILL the Fergus McLeash burger. And not so much a favorite is the Shrimp Melt…..
Then, it was a screaming ride on to Vale, across the Snake at Ontario, and back on our beloved Freeway where you can ride 85 MPH and most of the time get away with it. We waved good bye at 10:15 on State Street, pretty sweaty and bug spattered, and exhausted, having traveled about 995 miles in about 31 hours. It was a great ride.

OMC 2015 Spring Run Report
![]() |
| Scarecrow, Guest, Duke, Big Easy, Grim, Bomber, Rip City, Guest, Guest |
Most of us met at the Gowen Road Chevron at the appointed time. We all got back together at Pickle's Place in Arco. Present: Scarecrow, Duke, Big Easy, Grim, Bomber and Rip City. Not present: Krome, Smooth and Zeus. We had half as many guests as we did members. Oh well.
The ride to Picabo was fairly uneventful and we stopped for gas there. We rode on to Arco and had a lovely lunch at Pickle's Place. One local had taken the big circular table to himself for a cup of coffee and gave me that "I dare you" look when I stared him down. He didn't budge so we sat at a smaller table. Rip City had a cotton candy shake up front to ruin his appetite but it didn't work. Bomber was served last again.
Scarecrow was presented with lovely custom jacket with a very expensive price tag. What a lucky guy to have such generous and thoughtful friends.
![]() |
| Scarecrow |
We then headed to Mackay and beyond. It was smooth sailing until we started passing the mountains in the area of Mount Borah. We passed through a hail and sleet storm that was the worst I had ever ridden in. After getting clear of the sleet and hail storm, we found a break in the storm and only four riders remained. We reached up and checked our ears and faces to make sure we weren't bleeding. Everyone's appendages seemed intact and we waited. This quartet was soon joined by two more riders and then the final three. The final three had stopped to don their rain gear. I don't have any rain gear, and never will, but that's another story. I wonder if Damien Blade has rain gear.
We then rode through a mild rainstorm, compared to the previous onslaught, and then rode into the Hot Springs. We parked and met Sergeant Mike and Shana. We all got checked in and hit the pool. Dinner was served and was excellent as usual. Tri Tip steak and other lovely food disappeared quickly along with the dessert. And then back into the pool.
In the pool, a game a "Catch This Big Rock" ensued and was enjoyed by some and not so much by others. True personalities shine through when this type of game is played. After the swim, we adjourned to the Octagon where some of the group listened to classic vinyl way too late into the night.

| Scarecrow, Guest, Duke, Big Easy, Guest, Guest, Bomber, Rip City and Grim |
Morning rose with some taking a dip before a lavish breakfast that sent us on our way. It was a great ride down to Stanley where we stopped for a break. We then headed over the Banner Summit and down to Lowman and that leg was also a great time. Unfortunately, just before Lowman we happened to end up behind some idiots in cages that made the leg from Lowman to Garden Valley much less than enjoyable. I think next year, we go through Idaho City instead and eat at Trudy's.
After a much better lunch, than last year, we rode down to Boise ending our ride at the Beacon Light Chevron. All in all, it was a great adventure and Challis Hot Springs continued to be a great overnight destination.
Next meeting is July 2nd at the Clubhouse on Fairview. Be there or be square.

Legends (Guest Post by Bomber)
While in SLC over the weekend we went to Legends bike shop in Springville. It would be worth a ride down there just to see their shop and collection of bikes.
I thought this was a great bike. Everything new and fabricated in their shop. I especially love the new old square tank. $27,500.

OMC Meeting Report March 5, 2105
Present: G-Man, Smooth, Rip City, Grim, Big Easy and Bomber. Not present: Zeus, Duke (sick) and Krome (bogus excuse according to G-Man).
It's been a while since the meeting and I have been out of town doing business in Kansas City. I do remember Rip City poking the buffalo again when he tried to move in on Grim's room in Challis for the Spring Ride. I am not sure how that will play out but we may find out what at .45 round does to a person with no meat on his bones.
We did discuss our OMC sign that is still allegedly in progress. Below are a couple of prototypes:
I prefer the one on the right but with motoRcycle spelled properly. G-Man is in charge of this project.
Rip City and Bomber were in the lead for most pieces of pizza eaten. I don't recall who won that contest.
Grim and Bomber rode their bikes. Rip City was showing off his new brown cut. He and Big Easy are even closer than ever.
That's all I got. I am sure I missed stuff. Get your reservations in for the three rides this season.
